The piece, which credits WIRED's reporting, focuses on the iOS side and explains how a crowdsourced mapping system stands in for an absent official alert system. It also notes something we know well: a large share of users sit outside Iran's borders.
That is not a weakness, it is part of the design. During shutdowns, Iranians abroad are often the relay that carries information inside, which is why the installable web version, the Telegram bot, and use without any signup matter as much as the native apps.
